Information

Common names: Leopard Lily | Dumb Cane

Native to:  Central and South America

Description:  Description:  Dieffenbachias are almost always robust plants, very forgiving of neglect and excellent at regenerating. These plants provide a fantastic focal point, particularly when housed in an attractive pot.

This 'Mars' cultivar performs exceptionally well in interior environments. A white central vein ploughs through creamy white and dark green speckles on each leaf.  A lovely plant.

*** Plant height on delivery: Approx. 80cm with pot ***

Difficulty: Easy

Light: Diffused sunlight or light shade.

Water:  Let the potting mix dry out before watering with tepid water, ensuring it reaches root level. Aroids such as these are forgiving if underwatered, whereas root rot is a far more difficult recovery.

Temp.: These plants enjoy typical indoor temperatures (18-24°C / 64-75 F)

Humidity: These plants love moisture in the air so will do best in this situation, however they can tolerate average room humidity.

Fertiliser: Once the plant has acclimatised to its position, a weak solution of general houseplant fertiliser can be applied monthly throughout summer.

Potting mix: For aroids like these we use a typical aroid potting mix for them (loose, airy and extremely well draining).

Notes:  Called 'Dumb Canes' due to being known as an irritant if eaten, if your pets or children have a propensity to eat houseplants then these plants are possibly best avoided.  However, although biting into a leaf would cause an unpleasant and painful reaction in the mouth - this nearly always results in the victim spitting it out instantly and for this reason Dieffenbachias rarely cause serious poisoning.

Occasional yellow leaves on Dieffenbachias is perfectly normal - just snip them off to keep the plant tidy.
