Common name/s: Song of India
Native to: Mozambique, Madagascar, Indian Ocean islands
Description: Sturdy and incredibly resilient, this tree like plant creates a dramatic focal point to a room.
This fabulously eye-catching 'Song of India' has a palm like appearance, with multiple stems and many striped broad leaves. Very drought tolerant, they make great focal points. Slow growing, they can grow to about 3 to 6 feet over many years.
*** Plant height on delivery: Approx. 115cm with pot ***
Difficulty: Easy
Light: Needs bright, indirect light for the best growth and colouring. Prolonged direct sun will burn the leaves. Low light over time will make the yellow-lime striped leaves lose their vibrancy, and the plant may become spindly.
Water: Drought tolerant and like most Dracaenas, they prefer being on the dry side. In spring and summer, soak the plant and ensure all the water has drained away. Leave to completely dry out to the roots before watering again. A 3-4 weekly soak should suffice over summer although obviously this will be partly dependent on the plant's position and environment. Using a moisture meter avoids any uncertainty.
Temperature: Typical indoor temperatures (16-24°C / 64-75 F)
Humidity: Hailing from high humidity areas, these plants appreciate higher humidity areas, or at least an occasional misting.
Fertiliser: Once the plant has acclimatised to its position, a weak solution of general succulent fertiliser can be applied every few weeks throughout summer.
Potting mix: Needs a fast, well draining mix, light and sandy.
