Common name/s: Emerald Palm | ZZ Plant | Zanzibar Gem
Native to: Eastern Africa
Description: Possibly the king of indestructible plants. Attractive hi-gloss, waxy leaves on long arching petioles, this plant can tolerate low light levels and severe levels of neglect. A striking plant with longevity almost guaranteed.
*** Plant height on delivery: Approx. 100 cm with pot ***
Difficulty: Very easy
Light: Preferring bright indirect light but tolerating virtually all levels of shade, this plant is a must for beginners. Large specimens are perfect for offices and retail premises.
Water: It is imperative that this plant is NOT over-watered. The swollen rhizomateous roots of this plant act like mini reservoirs meaning it will survive for a long time between waterings.
Temperature: These plants enjoy typical indoor temperatures (16-24°C / 64-75 F)
Humidity: Average room humidity is fine.
Fertiliser: Once the plant has acclimatised to its position, a weak solution of balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied every two months throughout summer.
Potting mix: Will cope with just about any potting mix as long as it's well draining, so sand and perlite are useful additives.
Notes: The plant is stemless - petioles arise directly from the rhizome.
